Backup & restore

Keep a backup you can find again.

Ova keeps health records on your device and does not currently offer cloud sync. A separately saved Ova backup file gives you a supported way to restore records later.

Does sharing a backup mean it has been saved?

Not necessarily. Opening a share sheet is not proof that a file was saved. Complete the save or share action in the destination you chose, then check that the backup file is present and accessible there.

Choose a private location you can find again. A temporary app export is not a substitute for your own separately saved copy.

How do I make a useful backup?

  1. Open Ova's Backup & restore screen.
  2. Create a backup and complete the offered save or share flow.
  3. Check the destination for the saved Ova backup file.
  4. Keep it private and make an updated copy when your records materially change.

A backup can contain sensitive profile and health information. Be careful about the destination and who can access it.

What happens when I restore?

Select a supported Ova backup, inspect the available preview and read the confirmation before proceeding. Restore can replace local information; it should not be treated as a harmless way to browse a file.

Keep a separate current backup before replacing existing records. An unrelated JSON file or a PDF report is not automatically a valid Ova backup.

Can I restore before repeating onboarding?

Ova provides a Restore backup entry on the initial Privacy screen for returning users. The restore preview and confirmation still apply, and current privacy choices are handled separately from the old backup.

If the file cannot be selected or restored, keep your original backup intact and contact support with the app version, device model and error message. Do not attach a health-data backup to a support email unless a separate safe handling process has been explicitly agreed.

What can cause local records to be lost?

Erasing app data, uninstalling Ova, losing the device or device failure can remove local records. An operating-system backup may behave differently depending on your device settings; Ova's local-backup feature should not be confused with a guaranteed cloud recovery service.

For more detail, read the Privacy notice. For a readable summary instead of a restorable file, see PDF health reports.
